Budget Narrative

This funding request is the total project budget for the Engage Summer Institute event with a grand total of $60,000 and no additional funders are anticipated. Briefly, this budget can be broken down into 3 major categories: instructor compensation ($12,054), participant support ($37,387), and additional expenses ($2,733).

First, we request compensation (including benefits) for 2 instructors for 98 hours per person distributed over 3 phases of the Summer Institute: course planning, delivery, and follow-up. Hourly ($50/hour) and benefits rates (23%) are consistent with the rates set by the University of Washington.

Second, we request support for up to 20 participants in the form of travel, accommodation, subsistence, and classroom rental for a 6-day, 5-night schedule. Airfare is set at $750 (based on current average round-trip costs to Seattle) per participant; accommodation ($118.75) and classroom ($21.50) rates are set by the University of Washington; meals and incidental expenses ($79) are set according to federal rates.

Finally, we request additional expenses including advertising ($1500) and recruiting attendees (newsletter, website, social media fees), honoraria ($150) for 3 guest speakers, and expenses ($783) incurred as part of social events (picnic shelter rental, light refreshments, bus passes, museum entrance fees).
